Speed hump installation begins Friday

Speed hump installation begins tomorrow in four locations throughout the neighborhood

Last fall it was proposed that we add speed humps in high traffic areas around the Copperfield Townhomes. After delays due to covid and scheduling, they will be installed starting tomorrow.

Construction details

  • Construction will last several hours on Friday, August 21st and it will block one side of the road.
  • You will be able to drive around the construction.
  • The other side of the speed humps will be added on September 1st
  • The speed humps can not be painted until mid September when the concrete is completely cured.

Why do we need speed humps?

  • The HOA Board receives numerous complaints of speeding through the neighborhood.
  • Speed humps are a proven method of slowing traffic and are very common in residential areas surrounding Copperfield.
  • Vehicles can pass over speed humps with minimal disturbance and can safely maintain speeds of 15–20 miles per hour.
  • This is an extension of the existing speed humps on Coppertowne and Brittania Way that were installed several years ago by the Condominium HOA.

How was this decision made?

  • Presentation and discussions at three HOA Board meetings.
  • Exhaustive research and conversations with the City of Dallas and Dallas Police.
  • Copperfield HOA Board approved installation of speed humps in February 2020.

How much does this cost?

  • Copperfield Townhome HOA funds were NOT used for this project.
  • Funding for the speed humps was provided by private donations.

Where will the speed humps be placed?
Speed humps will not be in front of anyone’s driveway and will not block fire hydrants.
See photos below for the four locations:

  • Coppertowne between the bridge and Brittania Way
  • Coppertowne adjacent to the cabana near Coppertowne Court
  • Brittania Way between the east and west entrances to Barnaby
  • Britannia Way between Township and Brittania Court

Thanks much and please drive safely!

Parking and Safety Improvements

PARKING
Recently several parking issues have been submitted to the HOA Board:

  • Many homeowners are frustrated with the increase of cars parked on streets.
  • Parking on the sidewalk continues to be a problem.
  • Large, commercial vehicles have been parked on the street.

Parking reminders:

  • Please park in your driveway whenever possible rather than on the street.
  • If parking on the street, be aware of the placement of your car to ensure neighbors can easily back out of their driveway.
  • Parking rules from page 8 of the Copperfield Homeowners Manual are attached below.

NO PARKING SIGNS AND VIOLATIONS

  • No Parking signs have been updated by the City throughout the neighborhood on existing poles, including near the entrance from Royal Lane.
  • To report parking violations use the 311 Mobile App  or visit the  311 website. The city will send out parking enforcement and also track if it is a on-going parking violation.
  • Nobody wants to have their car towed! Whenever possible and safe, residents are encouraged to try to contact the Copperfield resident with the car tor leave a note on the car before reporting it to the city to be towed..

CRIME WATCH AND VIP

  • New Crime Watch signs have been installed throughout the neighborhood providing a visible safety  message in several locations.
  • Signs announcing the presence of Volunteers In Patrol have been added below speed limit signs.
  • To learn more about VIP and the August 29 Online Training for new volunteers click here.

A HUGE thank you to Darlene Pariani who manages our VIP program and worked with the City on the signs to enhance the safety of our neighborhood.

June Board Meeting Recap

Thank you to all who logged in to the Virtual HOA Board Meeting Tuesday evening. HOA business has continued through this period of COVID even though we have not had General Meetings. We understand that some were frustrated at the lack of interaction on the Zoom call. We are looking into options for the next meeting to incorporate Homeowner discussion into the next meeting while still maintaining order in the virtual setting with a large group.

Financials through April 2020 are now posted on the website.

Here is a brief summary of current HOA initiatives:

Roof and Skylight Replacement – The roof and skylight project is nearly complete. Classic is working directly with several homeowners to finish up a few items. If you have an outstanding issue and have not heard from Classic regarding the resolution of that issue, please contact Classic at [email protected]

Current Roofing  – This is the company which invoiced the HOA for work they claim was done in 2019.. The HOA has been negotiating with Current Roofing through our attorney to accept a settlement only for verifiable work done.

Tree Trimming – With the roofing project done, it’s time to trim all trees that are brushing the roofs. Tree trimming notices are being sent by Goodwin.  If a tree is in your backyard it is your responsibility to have it trimmed so it does not touch your roof or your neighbor’s roof.  Any roof damage caused by a tree on your property becomes your responsibility for repair. Be on the lookout for notices with when homeowners need to have this completed.

Driveway Repairs – Critical driveway repairs are being addressed  and we are waiting for a quote for this work.

Retaining wall repairs – The retaining wall on Barnaby and Brittania Way is failing.  It has been patched over the years and is holding up the back yard of some of those houses.  Getting a quote to have this repaired.

Sprinklers, Irrigation  and Landscape – Louis with Goodwin had a meeting with Exterior Expressions to address the lack of sprinkler repair issues and watering schedule.  Kip met with Jim Anderson to discuss clean up from the renovation/roof project.  The Landscape committee will coordinate with Kip to make a multi-year plan to phase in landscape.updates.

VIP (Volunteers In Patrol ) – Thanks to  hard work by Darlene we now have 23 members of VIP with a couple new members joining.  Virtual training is now available.

Street Signs – Darlene has contacted the City of Dallas and arranged for some new street signs and red strips on Stop signs along with some additional VIP/Crime Watch/Neighborhood Patrol signs to be placed throughout our neighborhood.  Again, Darlene – Thank You !!

Pool and COVID – Reminder to please distance at the pool and clean up after yourself.  The area where the trash cans are located has been cleaned up.  There is one can for trash and one can for recyclables.

Volunteer needed – We are seeking a volunteer to be a temporary pool helper while we look for a porter. This person would empty the trash cans at the pool and outside the pool gate each week. If you can volunteer for this, please Contact the Board Thank you in advance!
